Acupuncture and Chinese herbs

Traditional Chinese Medicine incorporates acupuncture, chinese herbs, careful attention to diet, and exercise to balance the body and maintain health.

Acupuncture and electrostimulation

Acupuncture is the insertion of needles into specific points on the body to cause a desired healing effect. This technique has been used in veterinary practice in China for at least 3000 years to treat many ailments. Acupuncture is used all over the world, either by itself or in conjunction with Western medicine, to treat a wide variety of maladies.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture assists the body to heal itself by affecting certain physiological changes. Acupuncture can stimulate nerves, increase blood circulation, relieve muscle spasm, and causes the release of hormones. The hormones that are released are endorphins and cortisol which help decrease inflammation and pain.

For which conditions is acupuncture indicated?

Arthritis

Hip dysplasia

Elbow dysplasia

Post orthopedic or neurologic surgery

Intervertebral disk disease

Acute muscle strain

Alternative to neurologic or orthopedic surgery in certain patients

Acupuncture can also:

boost the immune system

keep a healthy body in balance

reverse adverse affects of anesthesia and other pharmaceuticals

improve behavioral problems (eg anxiety, inappropriate urination in cats)

Does it hurt?

Acupuncture needles are extremely thin and treatments are virtually painless. Needles are sterile and used only once.
